Choosing the right career..... moving on your own

Moving on your own is the best choice ever when you decide anything in life that is important for you. Have seen people asking about what to do? where to go? what do you say? which one are you taking? even at the mid of their career. Seeking advice is good but to whom you are asking makes the difference.The biggest problem is your career starts much earlier than you think it has started. I still hear questions from the working executives who have an experience of three years and more as to 'what should I take next? I have experience in sales but it is too difficult no more sales profile, suggest something else?' these questions are really an eye opener most importantly to those who ask them because your career had been started much earlier than you realize it is. Taking up a degree in Arts, ending up with a job of a call centre executive and ultimately to some sort of sales position so as to have some 'growth' and finally finding yourself at a place where you never wanted to be. Believe me in the modern MNC culture of today you abruptly find this lot struggling for their career, for growth, and of course what they want in life. These questions must have been asked much earlier, at the time when you were choosing your stream in high school, this is where the importance of moving on your own comes. The peer group is a major influencer in your life at this stage.Its just not the course that matters its the choice you are making for a long term.To help make that daunting decision, there are many things that you should consider first;

The course: The course here refers to the stream you choose. The important thing to consider when choosing your course of study is will you enjoy the course you plan to study? Secondly, will the course allow you to break into the career that you are interested in? Thirdly, the area you choose must allow freedom to take up different associated and parallel career paths.

Research: Make sure you do your research, it is very important to do research so as to have a clear picture about how much time and effort is required to reach your dream position and what it takes to be successful in that field. The challenges ahead and the opportunities that can be the best fit for you.

Choosing the Institute/University:
Moving to a particular institute can be lonely, but don’t compromise what you want to do for the sake of others. Its where your journey starts. Everybody else is in the same boat as you. The majority of the people have started it this way, you will soon make friends as you move on. Take this as an opportunity to broaden your horizon. Make sure the institute provide a right mix of all the things important to you.

The value added factor: Keep a through check on it; what makes you stand out from other whether it is an entrance interview or an interview for the same job? The extra curricular activities which we take so lightly at the school level can be your future career.

So move on your own and conquer the world; a world of your choice...
